AA Hotel of the Year for Scotland 2001/2002

The Which? Hotel Guide 2002
“Startling transformation of Highland hotel into luxurious hideaway.”

Taste of Scotland 2002
“Without a doubt, Pool House is one of the finest places to eat in one of the most beautiful locations on the West Coast. Award winning Scottish cuisine.”

Best Loved Hotels of the World 2002
“A rare and magical place that everyone should experience at least once.”

New York Times – Gillian Tindall
“For character, food, welcoming staff and views, I like the Pool House Hotel."

Sunday Herald
“Sumptuously decorated suites and first rate cooking… the restored Edwardian bath-shower provided the most luxurious soaking I have ever experienced. John Moir’s award-winning cooking is based mainly on game, fish and seafood (some of which he catches himself) is varied, imaginative, superbly cooked and beautifully presented…-for fortunate guests- a cameo appearance was made by the local otters.”

The Sunday Telegraph – Julie Davidson
“Seldom has washing been such a treat. As I wallow beneath the cascading canopy of the Shanks Independent Spray Bath,I feel a certain kinship with the grey seal idling in the water outside... The Harrisons’ establishment becomes my Hotel of the Decade.”

The Observer – Mariella Frostrup
This tiny hotel sets new standards of luxury in Scottish rural accommodation... With the emphasis so firmly placed on cosseting guests, there can’t be many nicer places to return after a hard day’s walking.

The Sunday Times –The Love Getaway
Rob Ryan finds the most romantic hotels for Valentine’s week
Where?: Way up on the west coast of Scotland, near the famous Inverewe Garden. The Romantic factor: Huge. Just 4 suites (it was once a 16 bedroom hotel) in a beautiful house overlooking a loch frequented by seals and porpoises amid deafening silence. Best Bed: one of the owners is a descended from Captain Smith of the Titanic & the Diadem suite mimics a first class cabin, with working fire place – as on the ship- a huge 1912 bath with glass canopied shower. There’s a bigger bed than those on the boat, though: 7ft square. Just spare us all the Celion Dion in the shower! Food for Love: local lobster, salmon, oysters, scallops, langoustine and hand collected mussels.

Sunday Times Travel Magazine to be launched January 2003 lists Pool House as "one of the top ten most romantic hotels in Britain"

Peter Irvine – Scotland the Best
Awarded one tick – Amongst the very best in Scotland
“Chef John Moir does a fine job with the scallops that come from “just out there”.
Simultaneously special & personable.”
