aroma of fresh baked bread or rolls will welcome you to the Gillum
House Bed & Breakfast. Host Kathleen Panek makes breads, rolls, and
muffins from old family recipes, most of them adapted to very low
fat or fat-free for a heart healthy breakfast. Her home made whole
wheat pancakes were judged by one recent guest as "the best pancakes
I ever had." The pancakes are served with West Virginia maple syrup.
She makes every attempt to accommodate special diet requirements.
Breakfast will be served at a mutually agreeable
time in the morning. In addition to the homemade breads or pancakes,
the full breakfast consists of fruit, juices, an assortment of teas.

After breakfast, you may want to take a leisurely
walk or bicycle ride on the West Fork River trail. This trail is
part of West Virginia's Rails to Trails program that spans 16 miles
from Shinnston to Fairmont.
A non-smoking facility, the Gillum House Bed &
Breakfast offers three second floor guest rooms, each with its own
warmth and atmosphere. Robes are found in each closet for the use of

this room. The queen four poster bed with pillow top mattress and
down-filled comforter whisper luxury while the engine and tender
above the mantle pay tribute to Mr. Gillum's tenure as B & O Station
Agent. Dolls, kerosene lamps, antique furniture, and original
paintings, by John Panek (your host's husband) are found throughout

the 16 mile Ralph LaRue West Fork River Trail while you stay at the
Gillum House Bed & Breakfast in Shinnston, WV. Your horse gets to

West Fork River Trail: This 16+ mile scenic trail winds along
the West Fork River from Shinnston to Fairmont. Bicycle rentals can
be arranged. Covered bridge at Philippi, site of the first land
battle of the Civil War. Next to the bridge is a park with
battle flags of the units involved in the battle. The Depot is a
museum. Fort New Salem: Original log cabins from West Virginia are
located on the site of a civilian fort. Costumed interpreters. Anna
Jarvis House: Located in Webster (on the way to Phillipi) the
restored house where Anna Jarvis, founder of Mother's Day was born.
General George McClelland made his headquarters here during the
Battle of Philippi. North Bend Trail: 77 mile rail trail from Walker
(near Parkersburg) to Wilsonburg (near Clarksburg)
